Local Pride for an International Sport
In 1922, local teen Ralph Samuelson took a homemade pair of skis and his daredevil determination and got behind a boat on Lake Pepin to make history. After three days of no success, Ralph decided to keep the ski tips above the water and the rest is history. He went from sitting in the water to skiing on top of it.
Each year Lake City celebrates this heritage with a huge festival in June featuring dazzling ski shows, youth water ski clinics, big concerts, parades and more!

👋🚴♀️Lake City welcomes upwards of 1000 cyclists as Tour de Pepin returns this weekend! Complete with boat shuttles, hydration stops with yummy snacks, a rockin’ after party with live music and @foragerbrewery and some of the most beautiful vistas you can get in the Midwest, this supported, non-competitive ride is one of our favorite ways to explore the cities, towns, and hamlets of our unique natural area.
The tour kicks off from Ohuta Beach Park at 7am on Saturday, June 7th. Same day registration is available.
